Loving God, Loving People, Doing Life Together
Fred & Sue Shotwell

Fred was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon. At the age of one his family moved to the small town of Olema, California . With many moves in between, they finally settled in Mill Valley.  With 3 other brothers and 1 sister, his mother had her hands full. Just ask Fred and you’ll hear some pretty interesting and funny stories!  Fred’s sister, Nancy Moore, is also a part of New Day.  She can tell you if Fred’s stories are true!  Fred attended school in Mill Valley and in 1959 he graduated from Tamalpais High School. After graduation he went to work as an apprentice body and fender man. In 1982 he opened his own body shop in Petaluma. He retired in 2004.

Sue was born in San Francisco, California, although her family lived in Marin County at the time.  She had a older brother and sister who were very involved in dancing, and by the time Sue turned three she already knew the routines that her siblings were performing, so they put her in dance classes.  The three of them performed for many years. In Sue’s senior year she gave up dancing and started Cosmetology School.

Sue and Fred met in 1959, through friends, and started dating.  After 3 years of going together they were married after Sue’s graduation in 1962. They have three beautiful daughters (Stephanie, Susie, and Sherri) and 6 grandchildren (Jessica, Kyle, Rebecca, Emma, Samantha, and Courtney).  Soon they will great-grandparents as well.  After their daughters grew up, Sue and Fred took up dancing and then started teaching and judging competitions.  Sue started a competition dance group of 11 couples which required a 15 minute routine. She has choreographed and coached many other couples over the years.  Fred & Sue retired from teaching dance in 1998.

Fred and Sue accepted the Lord and were baptized on their 9th wedding anniversary and served in various volunteer capacities at Sebastopol Christian Church for 32 years. “The Lord laid on our hearts that we were way too comfortable in our serving there and took us out of our comfort zone to help launch New Day.  We are so excited to be serving our Lord here and pray that God would continue to bless the body of believers here, as we grow to be more like Him everyday.”

Fred is the leader of our Small Groups ministry here at New Day, as well as serving on the leadership board.  He also leads a small group for men.

Sue is currently leading two growing groups of women in Bible study. Together, they spend a lot of their time volunteering to help out around New Day.
