Loving God, Loving People, Doing Life Together
John & Carole Barnett

John was born in Palo Alto, CA. He began working part-time at Hewlett-Packard Co. while attending San Jose State University, majoring in Geology & Environmental Studies. He retired from that “part-time” job in 2003, after 35 years. Carole was born in Concord, Hew Hampshire. She studied nursing at the University of New Hampshire. She worked at hospitals in New Haven and Boston before moving to California to take a job at Stanford Medical Center. Carole has spent the last 18 years as a visiting nurse, most recently with Kaiser.

John and Carole met while attending Peninsula Bible Church where they were both involved in the singles Ski Club. Carole still says she should have known better than to marry someone who would talk her (a beginning skier) into going to the top of an “expert run” and then leave her to find her way back to the bottom on her own. Nevertheless, they were married in 1975 and shortly after John was transferred to H-P in Santa Rosa and Carole went to work at Memorial Hospital. It was here that they started their family. Their children include: Daniel and his wife Melissa, Joey and Laura. They have one grandchild, Caleb.

John’s hobbies include camping, fishing and classic cars. Carole’s hobbies are gardening, quilting, cooking, and paying for John’s classic cars. They, along with their children, enjoy missions work. While working with junior high, high school, and college youth ministries, they have made many trips to Mexico to build houses for needy families. Their mission trips have also taken them to Africa and Chile.

John is on the leadership board here at New Day. He also plays percussion in the worship band. Carole volunteers in New Day’s nursery, is part of the greeting team, and helps with women’s ministries. Together they lead a small group that meets in their home and are eager helpers wherever they are needed.

That’s just a part of their story. Get to know them and find out more!
